I am satisfied that the end of the world is at hand. The evidence flows in from every quarter... Soon, very soon, God will arise in his anger and the vine of the earth will be reaped. See! See! - the angel with his sharp sickle is about to take the field! See yonder trembling victims fall before his pestilential breath! ... The heavens grow black with clouds; the sun has veiled himself; the moon, pale and forsaken, hangs in middle air; the hail descends; the seven thunders utter loud their voices; the lightnings send their vivid gleams and sulphurous flames abroad; and the great city of the nations falls to rise no more forever and forever! At this dread moment, look! The clouds have burst asunder; the heavens appear; the great white throne is in sight! Amazement fills the universe with awe! He comes! - He comes! - Behold the Savior comes! - Lift up your heads, ye saints - He comes! He comes! He comes!
The words are those of William Miller before the Great Disappointment of 1844. Quoted in Robert L. Ferm's Piety, Purity, Plenty: Images of Protestantism in America, Fortress Press, 1991, p.48
Today's prophets of the apocalypse, one has to observe, are far less poetic.

Over the past several months, I've wondered how it could be that the Cold War apocalyptic ravings of Herbert W. Armstrong could possibly still be effective in generating interest in the ACOGs, let alone more tithes and offerings, and occasional street buzz.
I hope this isn't too US-centric for an international blog, and I hope it isn't inappropriate to share this here, but non-ACOG Christians are going to be doing something incredible on 4-26-08. To summarize, that day, which incidentally falls on a Saturday, is going to be a day of national repentance. I found out about it from a long term friend, and there is an incredible website and video to explain how it came about.
www.reigndownusa.com is the site. I don't know how to convert it for easy access here, but fortunately, it's a relatively short address, so that anyone can remember it to type it into their browser.
Interestingly, it's kind of an anti-apocalyptic event. It's to make it so that hopefully there does not need to be national punishment visited on the USA. It would be very interesting to know whether the ACOGs are aware of it, and if so, whether they would encourage their members to participate. I have seen nothing about it on any of our normal forums and blogs, except what I've posted myself.

Some may want to watch this.
I hope it works internationally.
